DESCRIPTION //
The event marked the final gathering of CLAP – Cultural Lab Platforming, a research-action program launched in 2020 by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
CLAP aimed to connect the humanities with emerging technologies, rethinking traditional and innovative roles alike. At the heart of the project there were the idea of cultural platforming—the application of digital platform logics to the cultural sector. This approach seeked to create new forms of cultural engagement and access while experimenting with models of digital citizenship.
Within this broader vision, the program focused on two rapidly evolving sectors: Audiovisual and Media Arts, both of which have undergone significant transformations, especially under the pressures and accelerations of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The final one-day conference brought together researchers, practitioners, and creatives to share insights, outcomes, and reflections.
Our session—presented by myself and Daniele Bucci—was the closing talk of the day, concluding the section dedicated to Media Arts. Introduced by Valeria D’Ambrosio, a researcher involved in CLAP, our contribution drew on our work as researchers at HER: She Loves Data and co-founders of Nuovo Abitare. We shared principles and case studies rooted in our practice, exploring how data, art, and community-building can inform regenerative approaches to media and cultural production in an increasingly digital world.
CLAP program was developed under the scientific coordination of Prof. Tommaso Fabbri and Prof. Vittorio Iervese.
