DESCRIPTION //
WHAT IF AI was used to promote active citizenship?
This was the initial question of a conversation I joined as a speaker in the third seminar of the series WHAT IF?, where I shared a selection of Ecosistemica’s case studies and methods aimed to involve communities and to encourage a culture of distributed governance. The discussion focused on how Artificial Intelligence can become an agent for collective engagement, helping to co-design more open and participatory civic processes.
WHAT IF? was a series of seminars exploring the complex relationships between Artificial Intelligence, collective values, and decision-making. Hosted by the Department of Architecture at the University of Naples Federico II between March and June 2024, the program invited participants to question how AI might influence the ways we design, govern, and inhabit our cities. Each encounter revolved around a speculative question: 1) WHAT IF we adopted a convivial approach to AI?, 2) WHAT IF AI helped build collective values?, 3) WHAT IF AI was used to promote active citizenship?, 4) WHAT IF we could deliberate with AI?.
The seminar series was curated by Sabrina Sacco, PhD Student in Artificial Intelligence at UNINA, with the scientific coordination of Prof. Maria Cerreta, Prof. Ferdinando Di Martino, Prof. Bice Cavallo, and Prof. Michelangelo Russo. I am grateful for their invitation and for the chance to take part in such an inspiring and forward-thinking initiative.
